Item Description
These are some of the better known geode specimens from the western United States, which are appreciated by collectors for their beautiful patterns and pleasing colors. These geodes formed during the Miocene epoch, where there was volcanic activity in western Utah that released an extrusion of the rock Rhyolite. Gasses that were trapped inside the rock caused cavities to form and many thousands if not millions of years of ground-water circulation allowed minerals to precipitate into the cavities and crystallize. The result of this process are the famous Dugyway geodes with semi spherical shapes and crystal-lined cavities. Most geodes are typically hollow whereas others are completely filled with massive, banded quartz. The most common mineral found within the geodes is Quartz. This half of a geode featuring beautiful color banding ranging from a soft bluish-purple with slight mixed pinks, reds and browns throughout. The piece is polished, and would make for a great addition to any collection.
