Item Description
The Planet Mine is well-known for spectacular neon-blue Chalcanthite specimens, and this impressive small cabinet specimen more than upholds this reputation. The curving bundles of fibrous crystals nearly reach an amazing 3 cm, and how they react to transmitted light is incredibly aesthetic, as the pics show. This Fe-Cu-Ag-Au-Silica mine produced sporadically from 1863 to 1937. It is almost certain that these crystals originated in post mining conditions within the mine tunnels after that heyday, as copper-rich waters drained through the tunnels and shafts, creating an environment for this hydrated copper sulfate to form.
