Item Description
Phacolite is the uncommon lens-shaped variety of chabazite due to twinning/multiple twinning of rhombohedrons. This rare, old plate features glassy, crackly-looking, colorless phacolite crystals to 1.8 cm covering the thin basalt matrix. It hails from the much less well-known Kyogle Quarry of New South Wales. The plate has a fabulous, 1.4 cm, lost-art, tiny handwritten label on the back. The label dates the piece to the limited early 1920s find of this material, according to a 1988 Mineralogical Record article. Purple fluorescence. Ex Belsky Collection. Extremely rare on the market in this quality.
