Item Description
The Bunker Hill Mine is a famous lead-zinc-silver producer that was the source of some of the finest Pyromorphite specimens from the Western Hemisphere. The mine operated for a century (closing forever in 1988). While the Pyromorphite specimens are beloved, this locality produced some fine quality Cerussites as well. This is a rarely seen CABINET SIZED(!) Cerussite specimen featuring sharp, well-formed, lustrous, off-white colored "snowflake"-shaped twinned/reticulated crystals associated with small crystalline Native Silver on grey host rock matrix. Some of the crystals even show good gemminess in areas. This is certainly one of the biggest specimens of this hard to find material that we've ever had to offer in the auctions, and would make a great addition to any carbonate or secondary ore mineral collection, along with adding to a suite of minerals from the famous Bunker Hill Mine. Priced at $1,800 in the inventory. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #19408CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
