Cerussite with phantom

Item Description

OUTSTANDING single crystal of Cerussite, one of the famous Tsumeb Mine's signature species. GEMMY and thick, this Cerussite has a wonderfully-formed, single termination that is made to look even more prominent by the contrasting and rounded contact along one edge. Within the termination is a series of super-sharp brown phantoms whose quality highlights the crystal's formation. Photographing against black further demonstrates the complexity of the zoning, and how they actually extend the length of the crystal. As is typical for many larger Cerussites of similar habit, the presentation side is pristine and the reverse side is so perfectly cleaved that it looks pristine. This small-cabinet piece is excellent on multiple levels, and the arresting zoning makes this seem akin to the well-known, zoned Cerussite featured in the Mineralogical Record's 1977 important book on Tsumeb (at that time, mostly in black and white photos). Good family genes, to be sure.
