Item Description

A two-sided piece of exquisitely reticulated Cerussite with one side featuring a fine coating of green Mottramite and the obverse side showing the uncoated, cream colored Cerussite. The Mottramite glaze consists of very fine-grained, army-green crystals that look as though they are airbrushed onto the surface and it reveals all of the shadowy detail of the lattice-like twinned Cerussite. The uncoated side shows the beautiful, arborescent, reticulated cerussite crystal growth with more stout, bladed crystals displaying abundant, cross-hatched, fine blades that constitute the twinned crystals. A fine and unique Tsumeb Cerussite from old finds! This has a note with it, in Erika Pohl's hand, saying it came from the collection of Kegel - Friedrich Wilhelm Kegel (1874–1948), director of the mining operations at Tsumeb mine from 1924 to 1933 and a very well known collector himself.
