Item Description
A good quality and elusive Cerussite specimen from the renowned copper deposit at Kimbedi in the Congo. Typically, the Cerussites from this locality are small and somewhat non-descript, but this one is BIG for the locality. The important aspect of this Cerussite is the fact that it is not opaque, but actually shows a bit of translucency when backlit. It's clearly twinned, with excellent form and a lovely satiny exterior luster. The right edge of the twin actually shows tiny "legs" or "tines" where it's starting to take a retiulcated "snowflake" form. The color is a silvery smoky hue, not uncommon for the material. The underlying matrix makes for a good contrast and host for the crystals. This piece came direct in a lot of Dioptase specimens from Kimbedi, and stands as one of the finest examples from the locality that we know of. Very minor damage, but the front face is in good shape. VERY hard to find, better in person, and valued at $1,200 for its rarity and size. I'm sure this one is going to end up being a great bargain for somebody who collects secondary ore minerals, copper minerals or just Cerussites, but make no mistake, this is an imporant specimen for the locality.
