Item Description
This piece comes a find in 2021 at Mfouati. It's a distinctive and certainly unusual Cerussite specimen for it's color and crystallization / morphology. There honestly are not too many examples of Cerussite from most mines in either Republic of Congo or DR Congo, so this was an exciting and refreshing discovery for those who are fans of secondary ore minerals. This piece hosts sharp, well-formed, somewhat translucent, lustrous, dark "smoky" colored reticulated twins and single crystals of Cerussite measuring up to 3.2 cm, with no real matrix. As a matter of fact, the piece is crystallized on all sides, with no visible point of attachment that I can see, so I'm calling it a complete "floater". There are a few tiny imperfeections, so the piece is not 100% pristine, but it's very fun to view up closed with a loupe, as the morphology is really attractive. I don't know if there will be more of these going forward, so don't miss out.
