Cerussite (Hefendehl Coll.)

Item Description

This is an eye-popping Cerussite specimen with a very three-dimensional cluster of super glassy and transparent crystals, and at least 3 different display views. There are four large, gemmy, prominent crystals that comprise this cluster and at first glance, it doesn't seem as though any are twinned, however, closer inspection reveals that most of them are, it's just that the accompanying twins on the big crystals are small. When the crystals are viewed head-on, the intricacies of the cyclic twinning become more evident. Cerussite is a lead carbonate and has a high refractive index which is why these crystals have such an internal sparkle and high glassy luster whether it is just sitting on display or you turn it in your hand. The largest crystal is a full two inches across and over a half-inch thick! The other three crystals measure 4, 3, and 2.5 cm in maximum dimension, respectively. Some ocherous Hematite is present at the bottom of the piece and tiny patches are present on the crystals. This is a very fine piece! It is essentially pristine except for two trivial dings that are barely noticeable. Valued $2000-2500.
