Item Description
A very rare, old-time combination specimen from the less well-known Granby Field, near the famed Joplin Field for lead mining, that started off the metals rush in Missouri around the late 1800s. The pockets are filled with many elongated, cyclically-twinned Cerussite crystals. The twinning is impressively uniform among the Cerussites, and you don't often see that. The longest of the Cerussites is 1 cm, and they are fluorescent. On the back, there are numerous more Cerussites nestled among the moss-like fields of green, microcrystalline Pyromorphite. Probably old-time material (such specimens were known to be found circa 1900). Formerly in the collections of the Chicago Field Museum, Jimmie DuFoe, and Charles Noll. When they do turn up, these are usually very highly valued. From our special collection sale, direct to auction, of choice material from the collection of Richard Rossi, East Coast collector and Mineralogical Record Fellow.
