A classic habit for Cerussite, this lovely miniature from Touissit features a beautiful lattice of reticulated/twinned crystals. The style is VERY MUCH LIKE TSUMEB! In fact, it confused us as well, though her catalog says Morocco. On close inspection, you can look at the matrix underneath and see a pedestal of sparkly dolostone matrix that simply does not look Tsumeb, and also the color is unusual for Tsumeb with a slight iron-stained orangey or amber hue to the crystals. Therefore, we are going with Dr. Pohl's label on this one. She was one of the biggest collectors ever of Moroccan material. From the label number, she acquired this in the 1970s when Toussit was at its peak of cerussite production, as well. The individual, bladed, translucent-to-gemmy crystals are striated and have excellent adamantine luster. The 'snowflake' form of the twins has such a charming aesthetic, and the depth and soft glow from satiny interiors are almost mesmerizing as you stare at the piece. The Cerussite also has a gentle, off-white fluorescence. These specimens are no longer being found at this storied locality, and they truly represent some of the most distinctive and attractive Cerussites available, IF available. The unique color here, grading to orange tips, is amazing! This is a choice, jewel-like miniature. Valued $4000-5000.
