Item Description

A beautiful matrix display specimen of these elusive and fine quality Cerussites from the famed Grand Reef Mine. This particular specimen was collected by Les Presmyk and Dick Morris, and was purchased by Sam Elbin in October of 2003. A showy "fan"-shaped twinned group of sharp, well-formed, white Cerussite crystals measuring 2.3 cm, is neatly nestled into an open vug, partially lined with Amethystine Quartz on matrix, creating a showy overall specimen. The Cerussites have lustrous, attractive terminations, and are in great condition, with only a tiny bit of roughness on the left side that I can find with a loupe. Showy matrix display specimen in this size are quite rare from the Grand Reef Mine, and this is a very good for its size and quality. Valued $2,500-$3,000.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 14.1.3.4 AZ.9; 9799. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
