Celestine with Sulfur (ex Chet Lemanski Collection)

Here we have a fine old classic specimen with large, lustrous, prismatic, white Celestine crystals measuring up to 3.2 cm long associated with yellow or golden colored crystals of Sulfur on matrix. Most of the Celestine crystals are in excellent condition, and are incredibly well-formed. Some of the Sulfur crystals are not 100% complete, but it's the Celestine that matters here, as it is incredibly difficult to find cabinet sized display specimens like this with such superb quality crystals. Mining in this area ceased decades ago, so you'd be hard-pressed to get your hands on another comparable specimen of this old classic material. Collection #15076CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
