Item Description
This classic old Sicily sulfur mine was active from the beginning of the 1800s to 1987 (MINDAT) and is famous for celestine and sulfur specimens. A sculptural parallel-growth cluster of large chisel terminated very glassy crystals is accented with a bit of sulfur on one side. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a trivial bit of termination edge wear. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2505 and acquired in May, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Ghostly white fluorescence with some pink fluorescent aragonite on one side. At up to 6.9 cm, these are LARGE crystals for the locale.
