Item Description

A fantastically sharp, 3.3 cm, bi-colored, celestine spike highlights the sculptural cluster of celestine crystals in the 4.5 x 4.5 cm well-placed vug in large Cretaceous-aged marly limestone matrix. The imposing spire has a pretty steel-blue termination above the colorless body. The scalloped faces on the lustrous, translucent spires and crystals add character. The remaining crystals are mostly colorless with modest areas of steel-blue color. Oak Hill is an unincorporated area southwest of the downtown Austin, Texas. Texas is known as mostly a mineral wasteland, but this is an excellent and unusually crystallized example from the locale. Celestine and minerals from the mercury deposits at Terlingua are some of the few species that Texas has produced in excellent crystallized examples. This very showy piece has multiple display possibilities.
