Celestine (Texas!)

Sculptural, multi-sided small cabinet matrix specimen richly and aesthetically studded with bi-colored celestine crystals from Oak Hill, an unincorporated area southwest of downtown Austin, Texas. The striking, beautiful, sharp, two-toned celestine crystals have pretty steel-blue terminations above colorless bodies of the translucent crystals with satin luster faces. The impressive stout, dominating crystal is 2.7 cm tall and crystals reach 3.2 cm long. Two adjacent crystals are doubly terminated, the 3.2 cm crystal and a more easily visible 2.2 cm crystal. The large crystals are on a limestone matrix covered with small celestines. Periphery wear is noted to a few crystals, but overall the piece is in great shape. Texas is known as mostly a mineral wasteland, but this is a very fine example from the locale. Celestine and minerals from the mercury deposits at Terlingua are some of the few species that Texas has produced in excellent crystallized examples. This very showy piece has multiple display possibilities.
