Celestine (Texas!)

Two doubly terminated orthorhombic celestine crystals with pretty steel-blue terminations and satin luster faces dominate this adorable miniature plate from the well-known Bull Creek area, near Austin. The large crystal is 2.8 cm and has both pointed and chisel terminations. The smaller crystal is 1.7 cm long and both are aesthetically set on the sculptural limestone plate richly covered with smaller, colorless celestine crystals. Texas is known as mostly a mineral wasteland, but this is a highly representative and very showy example from the locale. Celestine and minerals from the mercury deposits at Terlingua are some of the few species that Texas has produced in excellent crystallized examples. From a 2020 find.
