Item Description

A sculptural and classic large celestine from this well-known Mexican locale. Striking parallel-grown, spearpoint-shaped, tabular, celestine crystals with sawtooth edges aesthetically diverge at the top with multiple terminations. The very glassy, highly lustrous crystals are water-clear to translucent. One edge is contacted, but is out-of-sight in the primary display view. Ex Bill Panczner Collection and acquired in the 1960s to 1980s. Bill was the a major collector of Mexican material and also the first Curator of Earth Science at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in 1974 and the author of the 1987 book Minerals of Mexico. It is the most thorough summary of the subject to this day! Read about Bill in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=841. An exceptional, older 360-degree celestine from the Tule Mine at Melchor Muzquiz. Valued $1500-2500. You NEVER see good ones for sale anymore, and this has fabulous luster!
