Item Description
Fantasy looking, RARE small cabinet specimen of glassy, tiny celestine crystals dramatically covering one side of the sculptural cluster of fossilized bryozoans from the famous White Rock Quarry of Ohio. The back side has far less celestine crystals, but includes a fragment of a ribbed clam. The White Rock Quarry mines marine Lockport Formation limestone (Upper Silurian, about 425 MYA). Bryozoans are invertebrate colonial animals with a long fossil record, from the early Ordovician to the present. The Quarry is world-famous for outstanding fluorite and celestine specimens. See the excellent 2020 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 51, No. 5. Ex Bill and Anne Cook collection. A rare, perhaps unique specimen where geology meets biology from the locale, from this famous Ohio collection of two great Ohio-based collectors.
