Item Description

This obscure old locality is the Type and Dana locality for celestine, which occurs in thin seams of pale greyish blue and parallel-fibrous crystals. Specimens from this locality had been analyzed as early as 1797 by the German mineralogist M. H. Klaproth. (Beitrage zur Chemischen Kenniniss der Mineralkorper, II, pgs. 92-98) (MINDAT). The piece has striking chatoyant shimmer on the edges. Rare old-time material from an East Coast collection. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
