Celestine (killer thumbnail)

Rarely do we encounter these beautiful and striking Celestine specimens from southern Indiana (near the Kentucky border), but it's even rarer to find a killer thumbnail like this specimen. At first glance, you might think the piece is an unusual golden-yellow hue (rarely seen in Celestine), but if you turn the piece sideways, you'll see it's actually bi-colored, with a soft blue zone in the middle, wedged between golden-yellow exteriors on both sides. The textbook blocky form, razor-sharp faces, glistening luster and good internal translucency along with the associated white Calcite make for a wonderful all around example of these seldom seen specimens. It's in excellent shape, save one edge where it was detached from the pocket wall, but you don't really notice it until you look very closely. If you collect minerals from the Midwest United States or unusual thumbnail specimens, don't pass up this interesting specimen from the Hoosier Quarry.
