Item Description
Documented specimens from this well-known German show cave, discovered in 1868, are RARE. Stacked clusters of lustrous, translucent, brown nailhead calcite rhombs comprise this sculptural mounded cave calcite specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5668 and acquired from Al McGuiness in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The old label with this unique specimen says it was found in 1886! MINDAT does not list the Dechen Cave as a locality.
