Cavansite with Stilbite-Ca

There are certain minerals that are incredibly distinctive for either their form, color or both, and Cavansite is certainly one of those species. The pieces from the Wagholi Quarries in India are classics, and so iconic that although Cavansite has been found in other places around the world, they are almost exclusively associated with this locality. The species gets its name from its chemistry (CA-lcium VAN-adium SI-licate), and it's the vanadium content that gives Cavansite that rich color. This piece is a wonderful small miniature featuring classic intense greenish-blue aggregates which are associated with bladed crystals of translucent off-white Stilbite-Ca. The piece is crystallized on all sides, and is very close to being a complete "floater", but I can see some tiny points of attachment on the back. Highly sculptural and very eye-catching.
