Certain mineral species are singular and instantly recognizable for their crystal form and/or color. That is certainly the case with Cavansite, and the fact that they are predominantly only found in one place in the world makes them some of the most attractive rare minerals out there. Cavansite is really only found from Wagholi in any geunuine capacity, though it is found in other places in the world. The species is beloved by collectors and dealers due to the fact that it has one of the most distinctive colors you'll find in a mineral species. There might be a fair number of them on the market now, but most are not nearly as fine as this piece, and you won't see them forever. Rumors keep swirling as to whether Wagholi is completely flooded and unminable, or if the quarry is being filled in to make room for the ever growing housing market in Pune, but eventually one day there will be no more Cavansite on the market. This piece hosts a gorgeous radial "spray" of glowing intense blue Cavansite with a few addtional smaller Cavansite aggregates, sitting atop gemmy, bladed, white Stilbite and soft beige Heulandite on basalt matrix. The largest Cavansite aggregate measures 1.0 cm across. No real damage that I can see on the display side. From the collection of Angela Kosnar, whose favorite mineral species is Cavansite.
