Cavansite (good sized crystals)

Cavansite is a distinctive and rare calcium vanadium silicate mineral, that truly does not resemble any other species. The chemistry of the mineral is actually how it got its name (CA-lcium VAN-adium SI-licate). Although the type locality for Cavansite is in Oregon, the mineral is truly only associated with a single locality, Wagholi, India. To this day, 99.9% of Cavansite pieces on the market are from Wagholi. The species is beloved by collectors and dealers due to the fact that it has one of the most distinctive colors in the mineral world. It should be noted that rumors keep swirling as to whether Wagholi is completely flooded and unminable, or if the quarry is being filled in to make room for the ever growing housing market in Pune, but eventually one day there will be no more Cavansite on the market. This piece hosts gorgeous, rather large, impressive crystallized "blades" of glowing intense blue Cavansite with minor white Mordenite and micro beige Heulandite sitting on basalt matrix. The largest Cavansite aggregate measures 2.1 cm long. Minor roughness can be seen in a few spots, but overall the piece is in good shape and sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay.
