Item Description

A classic, old-time specimen of brilliant, jet-black, twinned Cassiterite crystals measuring up to 1.1 cm across associated with "Zinnwaldite" Mica from Zinnwald / Cinovec which literally sits on the border of Germany and the Czech Republic. Please note that Zinnwaldite was once a valid species, but it now defined as a series between Siderophyllite and Polylithionite. This famous tin locality has produced some of the most iconic "old world" Cassiterites extant. This piece is in great shape overall, with only superficial roughness. An attractive small cabinet of this beloved material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1283). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
