Item Description

A very rare and fine crust of lustrous, bubbly, botryoidal, rust-red, cassiterite from this obscure locale in Bolivia. This showy piece is from veinlets in rhyolitic rocks. Cassiiterite of this botryoidal style is uncommon today and came from a few historic localities in the past. It was great for smelting, and so much of it was indeed, melted down. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. Hefty ore at 276 grams.
