Item Description
The type locality for fluorapatite and mined commercially until 1990, now operated as a tourist mine, the Sauberg Mine produced many great, classic German specimens. One of the classic minerals from this tin-tungsten deposit was cassiterite, and they were often twinned. This splendent crystal is 1.5 cm across and attractively centered on the matrix with several small clusters of pyrite scattered around it. This is a beautiful example of twinned cassiterite from this historic mine! From the collection of Alex Venzke.
