Item Description
Cassiterite specimens are very uncommon from the tin mines of Salamanca. This is a large, sharp, moderately lustrous, sub-metallic gray crystal with classic twinned form. Possibly from the El Cubito Mine, for which MINDAT illustrates 5 specimens. Cassiterites of this quality and form are rare from here. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11697 and acquired from Jean Hamel. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
