Item Description

Cornwall, England is one of the most famous tin producing districts in the world. The old classic Cassiterite specimens from this area are beloved as they are some of the most recognized examples of the species, especially from Europe. This miniature specimen features a chunk of massive Cassiterite matrix with small open vugs filled with sparkling Cassiterite crystals and colorless / white prismatic Quartz crystals. The Cassiterites measure up to about 1-2 mm across and range in color from dark golden-brown to jet-black. A nice reference piece of this classic material. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016)/ David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. The piece comes with labels from Josef Vajdak, George Hesselbacher and Sam Weller Minerals who specifically calls this material "Diamond Tin".
