Item Description
Lustrous, sharp, metallic jet-black cassiterite crystals, to 1.4 cm, are aesthetically clustered on the blocky quartz-rich matrix on this showy and excellent combination old-timer from this historic tin-tungsten mining area in the famed Erzgebirge. Mining ceased in 1990. The noted bruising is certainly acceptable in the context of this old-time ore specimen, probably dating to the 1800s or early 1900s. Formerly in the Earl Calvert (1904-1964) Collection, a well-known California collector and the Eugene Sensel Collection (1911-2000), a New York collector. Ex Chet Lemanksi Collection and acquired in 1999. A classic, excellent and rich old-time cassiterite from this famous locale.
