Cassiterite (old classic - 1860)

Item Description

The historic Dolcoath Mine was one of the largest copper and tin producers in Cornwall. This ancient mine opened in the 1720s and finally closed in 1920. Cassiterite specimens from this mine are a classic and this an oustanding miniature. Sharp, absolutely splendent, brownish-black prisms to 2.3 cm comprise this striking plate. These are very large crystals for the locale and large for Cornwall. The label on the back has an 1860 date attribution (though we do not know the source).
