Item Description

Cassiterite specimens are super-rare from Alaska. MINDAT lists nearly 10 pages of localities, but has only ONE photograph - a well-rounded placer nugget! Tin City (currently unpopulated) is an extremely OBSCURE locale, where tin ore was discovered in 1902, with a small amount of mining taking place afterward (Wikipedia). This minimally rounded, lustrous, brown solid cassiterite nugget from a placer mine is composed of euhedral to anhedral crystals (some translucent). Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and acquired from a Mrs. Lee in Nome, Alaska in 1968. Probably old-time material, but no proof. A REAL Alaska rarity! A MUST for the locality or species collector.
