Cassiterite (fine crystal) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous old historic Cassiterites from Krupka (Graupen) in the Czech Republic. This piece hosts a superb quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, incredibly well-formed crystal of Cassiterite measuring 1.5 cm beautifully set on matrix. The crystal has incredibly bright, defined faces, some of which are remarkably smooth, while others show gentle striations. For the most part the Cassiterite is black, but if you hold it in front of a strong light, you can see slight golden flashes inside. Excellent quality, only a small imperfection that I can see on the front edge with a loupe. A beautiful example of this wonderful material dating back to the 1800s.
