Item Description

This specimen is labeled as coming from the "Moona River" (presumably the Moona Moona River) in New South Wales, Australia. With that said, I can't find a listing in any database that mentions this river, so if anybody out there can give us a better idea of where this piece is from, please let us know. This toenail sized specimen features a handful of very sharp, lustrous, well-formed cyclic twins of Cassiterite measuring up to 1.0 cm across sitting on iron-stained Muscovite matrix. The Cassiterites may appear black at first glance, but with a bit of backlighting, you can see small bright reddish-orange highlights inside. The piece is in great shape, with no major damage on the display side. A great representation of this classic and fine quality material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7056). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
