Item Description
Splendent, jet-black Cassiterite crystals completely cover one side of this matrix plate, creating a showy and highly representative, small cabinet piece from the famous Huanuni Mine. A number of the Cassiterites are twinned, and the crystals average about 5 mm in size but can reach up to 11 mm. The luster is excellent, and it complements the crystal forms nicely. The mine at Huanuni, one of the largest tin mines in Bolivia and a real sight to see, is better known for its phosphate species, but some of the more unique and attractive Cassiterite specimens are found there. ex George Elling Collection.
