Our Chinese sources have furnished us with, on occasion, some carved odds and ends. Here is another striking example of the artistry and mineral bounty of their country. This is intricately carved and polished quartz in the form of a baby bird (raptor or sea bird with the curved beak) breaking out of its water-clear shell. The detail on the head and plumage is excellent. Art in stone.
