Carved Jasper picture stone

Our Chinese sources have furnished us with another striking example of the mineral bounty of their country. This is from a recent find of carved and polished jasper picture stone from a less well-known area. This striking, two-sided, large piece has two outdoor, country scenes: one is a meadow with shrubs and bizarre looking trees below a scudding gray cloud. The sky is flecked light brown; the other side has thin tree trunks, a low cloud and dense foliage. It reminds me of Middle Earth or paintings from Chinese murals or room dividers or like paintings by the famed Impressionist artists of the 19th century. Art in stone. The measurements include the custom-made wooden base. One of the few polished pieces we sell, because they are just so beautiful at a nice pricepoint. 9.9 pounds or 4.5 kilos.
