Item Description
For years, it was quite difficult to get your hands on a well-crystallized example of Carrollite. A major discovery of this rare copper, cobalt, nickel sulfide took place in the late 1990s and immediately redefined the species in terms of size and quality. For a long time, one could only find small single crystals are isolated crystals on matrix on the market, but after the killers started coming out everybody had a chance to get their hands on a good Carrollite. This large miniature sized display specimen features a 9 mm crystal of Carrollite with brilliant metallic silvery faces and textbook cuboctahedral form sitting on massive white Calcite matrix. There is some massive / contacted Carrollite below the main crystal, but it's not a big deal when you consider the quality. The piece is three-dimensional and showy. Specimens like this are disappearing from the market, so this is a great chance to pick up an attractive piece for a good price. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016) with a label from noted rare species dealer Josef Vajdak. David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
