Item Description
When these new carrollite specimens were first found over 10 years ago, they were instantly regarded as the best of species ever found. Some of the largest, sharpest, most impressive crystals of this rare copper, cobalt, nickel sulfide came out of this find. This particular small cabinet features a well-placed, fine, sharp, well formed, lustrous, silvery color, cuboctahedron measuring 1.2 x 1.0 cm on a calcite cleavage accented with iridescent chalcopyrite. Crystals of carrollite on matrix are less common, and the quality of this one is certainly above average. The bit of noted edge and corner wear (mostly out-of-sight) are certainly only a minimal detraction. These pieces seemed to have dried up quickly, and I don't know if more will be found. A great opportunity to snag to nice matrix specimen of carrollite for a great price. Ex Art Soregaroli Collection. Valued at $600-$800.
