Item Description

Carrollite was first discovered in Maryland and named in honor of the type locality in Carroll County back in 1852. For many years it was a notably rare mineral, often found in small crystals measuring only a few mm. When these amazing Carrollite crystals from DR Congo first started to hit the market circa late 1990s-early 2000s, they were immediately recognized as the finest examples of the species ever found. The best pieces from the Kamoya South II Mine are unquestionable the largest, sharpest, most impressive crystals of this rare copper, cobalt, nickel sulfide extant. The piece features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, metallic, bright silvery colored modified cuboctahedral crystal measuring 2.1 cm, aesthetically sitting on white Calcite matrix. An impressive crystal with brilliant, euhedral faces. The crystal is in good condition on the front/display side, though contacted on the back where it was separated from the pocket wall These pieces seemed to have dried up, and I don't know if more will be found. A great opportunity to snag to big specimen of Carrollite for a great price. Valued $2,500.
From the collection of Jack Halpern No. 4147. Jack was born May 18, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, but has been a long-time resident of San Francisco. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the world encompassing over 3,200 specimens with a specific emphasis on color, quality, and style/aesthetics, which is evident in every piece. He admired specimens of all sizes from thumbnails to large cabinets and the vast majority of them rank from fine to world-class in their quality.
Above all else, Jack is considered to be the greatest gentleman in the modern era of mineral collecting. He is beloved by all those who have met him, and he truly is one of the most iconic figures in the mineral world. We recently acquired Jack's collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality pieces for their collections. We are honored to have the opportunity to offer Jack's treasures to everyone on a regular basis in the auctions.
