Item Description
Carrollite is a rare and sought after copper, cobalt and nickel sulfide. For many years, it was incredibly difficult to find a crystal over a few mm, but in the late 1990's some truly world-class examples were found in DR Congo. The best of these piece represent the finest examples of the species ever seen. This miniature sized display specimen is a superb, razor sharp, highly lustrous, brilliant / splendent, bright silvery colored cuboctahedral crystal free of matrix. The display side of the crystal is in excellent condition (I can only see a few minor rough spots), but it should be noted that the back of the crystal is not complete, though you can't see it when the piece is displayed. It's incredibly rare to find a nearly 2-inch crystal of this rare species, and very few are available on the market today. Originally valued at $4,000 in the inventory.
