Carnallite (rare specimen from the type locality) (ex Chet Lemanski Collection)

This is an incredibly hard to find specimen of the rare halide species Carnallite from the type locality in Germany! I think this is only the second specimen that we've ever seen from Stassfurt, and it's a wonderful example. This piece is a solid group of beautiful reddish-orange colored Carnallite, with no matrix. This piece has been stored in a zip-top bag as it can potentially dissolve if it's exposed to enough moisture. Now it is stable in most non-humid environments, as much as any hydrated mineral, so unless you live in a highly humid area, you don't have to worry about it. A very important and certainly impressive old-time specimen of a rare mineral species from the type locality. I have a hard time thinking of a fair market value of this one, but I would put it easily in the $500 range for what it is. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
