Carletonite (very rare)

Carletonite is one of the great classics from Mount Saint-Hilaire, which is one of the most species-rich localities in the world. The Poudrette Quarry produces many "best in the world" specimens of a lot of individual minerals including killer Carletonites. This piece is an attractive thumbnail sized piece showing a good sized, sharp, lustrous, pseudocubic crystal of Carletonite, with very minor matrix on the back. Keep in mind that most Carletonite crystals are typically measured in mm, and to have a piece over 2 cm, is a big deal. The color ranges from white on the exterior edges, with that classic indigo hue in the center, for which the species is known. The piece is contacted on both ends, but it still has a few well-formed, shiny crystal faces. From the collection of Colin Manlove. We had this one priced at $1,500 in the inventory.
