Carletonite is one of those very rare mineral species unique to only the Poudrette Quarry at Mt. St. Hilaire, Quebec, as it is the type locality. This is a very colorful, beautiful blue cluster of Carletonite crystals consisting of several, well-formed cubic crystals with good luster and very good size. It is about as good as you can get for the species in thumbnail size, with any color to it. There is one, nearly complete, dark and medium blue variegated, crystal on the bottom of the group (as photographed, 1.3 cm across at longest) and then five smaller crystals at the top of the cluster with the largest member of these (at 0.7 cm on edge). Carletonite is a complex potassium-sodium-calciumsilicate-carbonate. These came out in the late 1990s and is a very good thumbnail for the species and the find! Ex. R. D.
