Item Description

The Fossa Crater is the type locality for 33 species, including the very rare lead bismuth sulfosalt, Cannizzarite. The best examples of the species are found at this locality, and are extremely rare on the market. This particular specimen features classic, thin, bladed, metallic, silvery-grey colored micro monoclinic crystals on host rock matrix. The species was named after Stanislao Cannizzaro, an Italian chemist for whom the Cannizzaro reaction was named, This chemical reaction involves the base-induced disproportionation of an aldehyde lacking a hydrogen atom in the alpha position which was first accomplished in 1853. A great rarity for any species collector, a micro collector, or a sulfide / sulfosalt collector. Nearly impossible to find on the market today.
