Item Description
Canavesite is an incredibly rare magnesium-bearing species (classified by Hey and Strunz as a borate, but Dana lists it as a carbonate) which has only been found in TWO localities in the world. The species was named after the Canavese District of Torino where it was first discovered. This miniature sized specimen features classic white acicular "sprays" of Canavesite on matrix. A good sized specimen of this rare and attractive material from the type locality. From the collection of Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar, the well-known mineral collector and dealer from Colorado (1946-2007) and the namesake for the rare zirconium phosphate species, Kosnarite. Rich loved classic minerals from Europe, and actually named his company Mineral Classics for this reason.
