Item Description

Cinnabar specimens of this richness and sharp crystal quality are uncommon from the numerous mercury mines of this well-known district. A large narrow vein, 2-4 mm thick, richly filled with sparkly, wine-red, microcrystalline cinnabar crystals and sharp, microcrystalline drusy quartz crystals covers the large cinnabar infused matrix. There are more cinnabar crystals on the back side. Rich and excellent older material from the Bob Trimingham Collection. Collected by Dick and Joyce Friesen of Livermore on an underground mine tour in ca. 1965 according to Bob's label. Value to the species or California collector? I have never seen such a good old piece like this for sale from here.
