Item Description

A rich and good quality small cabinet specimen featuring the beautiful hydrated lead copper carbonate sulfate, Caledonite in the form of vibrant blue, flattened, striated crystals up to 1 mm sitting on matrix. There are actually crystals on multiple sides of the piece, a rather rich amount for what it is. It's quite reasonable to say that the Caledonite crystals are the most well-known mineral species from this locality. Thin veinlets of dark blue Linarite can be seen in a few spot as well. As mentioned, this is a micro specimen, and we've photographed it with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A beautiful and showy rare mineral specimen that would make a great fit into a suite of secondary ore minerals, or specimens from California. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
