Item Description

Striking, colorful, preferential iron oxide coatings on this sculptural two-sided cluster of intergrown sharp translucent gray calcite rhombs from Serifos Island, famed for outstanding green actinolite-included quartz "prases" and ilvaite crystals. The large central rhomb is 2.4 cm on edge. Calcite specimens of this exceptional quality are extremely rare. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12003 and acquired from Brad van Scriver at the 1989 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A very fine, rare and pristine two-sided calcite from the locale.
